The presentation will provide an overview of the history, philosophy and strategies of the Safe Streets Collaborative. Participants will learn about:
• Identifying and involving key stakeholders in this type of effort;
• Finding creative funding options to support education/enforcement actions;
• A strong partnership between bicycle and pedestrian advocates and the police that put the police out in front, leading to unexpected benefits such as increased bicycle- and pedestrian-related capacity and commitment among officers;
• The specific strategies that the Collaborative has used to build awareness, what was learned through each strategy, and what the Collaborative is doing to expand from a local, single-jurisdiction campaign to a regional, multi-town effort.

Webinar presenters are Jason Van Driesche and Jon Kaplan. Mr. Van Driesche joined Local Motion as Education and Safety Manager in 2009. He is responsible for building and expanding Local Motion’s highly successful Safe Routes to School program, the Safe Streets Collaborative, and other initiatives designed to make bicycling and walking safer and easier.
