Once again, I wanted to let you know that we have  victim service internships available for the Spring 2011 semester and are taking applications now. We are looking for students with excellent communication skills who need to do 120+ hours for the semester, averaging 10 to 12 hours per week. I have taken the liberty of attaching the internship description; please feel free to e-mail it to the appropriate faculty and post it in student areas. We have always been pleased with the performance of St. Louis University students in the past and look forward to having more in the future. The School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) of Indiana University Northwest invites applications for two tenure-track positions, at the assistant or associate professor level, commencing August 2011. We are seeking individuals with a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary approaches to meeting public policy challenges that are as diverse as the urban environment within which we operate. Successful applicants will have an earned doctorate in Public Administration/Affairs (or closely related field).  Applications for those who are ABD will be considered, but they must have a PhD at the time of appointment.  To be considered for the rank of associate professor, applicants must have achieved this rank in their current position and demonstrate a solid record of scholarly production, teaching performance, and service to university, profession and community.

For one position, preference will be given to candidates whose public affairs background includes interest or expertise in nonprofit management and organizational theory/behavior.

For the second position, preference will be given to candidates whose public affairs background includes experience or expertise in public management, environmental policy, and sustainability.

For either position, preference will be given to those with ability and/or experience in teaching statistics, research methodology and/or information systems.

The School of Public and Environmental Affairs has both a growing undergraduate program and a NASPAA-accredited MPA program. Current enrollment exceeds six hundred, with one-third enrolled in masters’ level programs. Faculty assignments include teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department of Public Policy (DPP) at the University of Connecticut seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  DPP is home to a NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA) program and to a Graduate Program in Survey Research (GPSR).  The Department of Public Policy is located on the University of Connecticut’s Greater Hartford campus in West Hartford, Connecticut.  The University of Connecticut is a premier research institution–designated as a Research University/Very High research activity by the Carnegie Foundation.

We seek a candidate with an active social policy and/or non-profit management research agenda whose work directly informs the design, delivery, and/or management of policies and programs that serve disadvantaged, underserved, or underrepresented populations.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry on a program of high quality research and publication in the best journals in their field.  The successful candidate’s primary teaching assignment will be to offer classes in the MPA curriculum, including classes that support the MPA focus areas in Nonprofit Management and Public Policy Analysis.  The successful candidate may also be expected to teach classes that support the GPSR or undergraduate classes in public policy.  Teaching assignments may be at the Greater Hartford campus, on the main campus in Storrs, CT, or online.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in public administration, public policy, economics, political science, sociology, or a related field.  Candidates must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. prior to the start date to be considered for appointment at the Assistant Professor level.  Applicants with advanced ABDs will be considered at the Instructor level until their Ph.D. requirements are completed.  Current Assistant Professors are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of, or clear potential for, scholarly excellence based on rigorous social science research methods in the area of social policy and/or non-profit management.

Preferred Qualifications:  Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated teaching excellence; superior communication skills; are comfortable with a wide array of analytical methods; and the ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.

This is a nine-month, tenure-track position with an expected start date of August 2011.  Salary and rank based on qualification and experience.

The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at the Indianapolis campus seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in nonprofit management.  SPEA is interested in candidates with broad interests and knowledge of the emerging issues in the field of nonprofits– including nonprofit management and governance, relationships between the sectors, social entrepreneurship and social enterprise, and the globalization of the sector.  Disciplinary background and research areas are open, but preference will be given to candidates with rigorous quantitative methodological training and an interest in comparative or international research of the nonprofit sector.  Applicants must present evidence of high quality research and an ambitious research program, an interest in professional service applications, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching.  Applicants should show clear promise for conducting applied research in a multidisciplinary environment, including collaborative research with community organizations and nonprofit agencies. The successful applicant will also demonstrate an ability to communicate the results of such research to a variety of audiences.

A Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline is required.  ABD candidates are welcome to apply, but the degree must be completed prior to the August 2011 start date of the appointment.  The successful applicant will be expected to teach in both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in SPEA’s Public Policy Institute, which conducts research with state and local governments and nonprofit organizations, as well as colleagues at the world-renowned Center on Philanthropy headquartered on the IUPUI campus.

SPEA is a multi-disciplinary, university-wide division of Indiana University, established as a professional school to address critical issues of governance, management and policy.  With over 30,000 students, IUPUI is the third-largest campus in the state and confers more professional degrees than any other campus in Indiana.  IUPUI is a Research I intensive institution, with over $400 million in external grants and contracts received in 2009-2010.
