About the Organization

Trailnet is a not for profit 501 (c) 3 organization with a twenty-two year history of Promoting Active Living as a way of life that encourages people to integrate physical activity into their daily routines. Trailnet leads in fostering healthy and active communities through innovative programs, planning, and policy that promote walking and bicycling throughout the St. Louis bi-state region.

General Summary
The TravelGreen program promotes commuter cycling and increases awareness for cycling safety in the St. Louis region with the added benefit of improving the health, environment, and economy. Trailnet works with communities and businesses to enhance their built environment, policies, and social networks in order to promote bicycling as a viable and practical form of transportation. The TravelGreen program identifies and engages a strong cycling contingent—those who are ready to change old behaviors and shift gears toward a new and healthier commute on a daily basis.

Responsibilities
• Help to coordinate and implement Trailnet’s contributions to the St. Louis Earth Day event on April 17, 2011.
• Assist in developing the community aspect of the TravelGreen program.
• Assist in coordinating Bike to Work Day planning efforts along with Trailnet staff and local groups, government agencies, transit agencies, employers and other key stakeholders. Must be available on the morning of May 20, 2011.
• Promote Breakfast for Bikers, a monthly incentive for bike commuters.
• Employ evidence based methods to increase use of alternative transportation.
• Write content for the Bike to Work Day/TravelGreen pages of the Trailnet website/blog and help to maintain the site.
• Promote National Bike Month through challenges, give-aways, education, electronic media, etc.
• Assist with other tasks related to the TravelGreen program including grant writing, phone calls, data entry, mailings, running errands throughout the St. Louis Metro Area, etc.

Summer Internship in the Middle East

Greetings from Nablus!

Tomorrow’s Youth Organization is recruiting highly qualified and motivated interns interested in community development, early childhood and youth programming, and conflict resolution to work at our flagship center in Nablus (West Bank, Palestine) for our summer programs (May – August 2011).

TYO Interns will work full-time in cooperation with TYO local and international staff.  Interns will create summer programs for children, youth and adults from refugee camps and other marginalized areas of the Nablus community. Each intern will develop and implement their own creative curriculum(s) through the summer, documenting development growth/gains in their class and in their participants, as well as informally acting as a liaison between TYO and the local community.

Summer programs may include classes in sports, drama, art, evening English classes, and weekend recreational activities. Also, there are opportunities to collaborate with other organizations in Nablus as well as on grant-funded projects, at the TYO Center, in the areas of intercultural dialogue, photography/painting and micro-finance projects for women.

DESCRIPTION: This is a full time administrative professional position. The position is 100% extension. The incumbent will be an Illinois-Indiana Sea
Grant College Program extension specialist employed by Purdue University, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, www.aci.purdue.edu/fnr/.  This individual will work closely with The Purdue Extension Land Use Team,
the Local Decision Maker Teairi and the Partnering for Land Use Sustainability (PLUS) initiative in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. Responsibilities of this position will involve occasional travel to communities throughout Indiana and to scientific meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Specialist is responsible for continuing and expanding an extension and technology transfer program emphasizing problem-solving assistance and the delivery of research-based information to community and regional leaders, policy makers, natural resource managers, extension educators and agency professionals. Programming should empower communities and regions to make informed land use decisions that incorporate natural resource sustainability. This specialist will be responsible for the coordination, development, and delivery of planning programs for communities (including the ongoing, Planning with POWER program). The successful applicant will be a member of the Partnering for Land Use Sustainability (PLUS) initiative in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources and serve as a critical link between communities and scientists conducting research on natural resource sustainability. This specialist will be an active member of the Local Decision Maker team and provide input on the development of technical decision support tools required by communities and transfer this technology to extension educators and community planning officials. This specialist will work with the Ag & Natural Resources and Economic and Community Development program leaders of Purdue Extension to offer continuing education programs for educators serving on plan commissions and to piovide support and leadership to educators serving on Purdue Extension’s Land Use Team.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have an advanced degree in a relevant specialty area within the field of planning (e.g., regional and urban planning, environmental planning, or natural resources planning), natural resource sustainability, regional science/geography, or closely related field. At least four years of experience in research and/or outreach related to planning and an aptitude and desire to conduct outreach is essential. Experience on plan commissions, county or municipal planning staffs, land use consulting, or experience developing and delivering land use decision making tools is desirable. Must have ability to work with GIS and web based decision tools and teach these skills to others. Demonstrated leadership ability and experience leading and facilitating meetings and project involving a braod range of stakeholders including community leaders, governmental agency personnel, natural resource managers, scientists, and the public is desirable.  The candidate must work independentlyfunction in interdepartmental and interagency teams, and work effectively with clients and scientists.  Strong oral, written, and electronic communication skills are essentail.  Experience in Sea Grant, Cooperative Extension, and/or other outreach capacities are also desirable.

The City and Regional Planning Section of the Knowlton School of Architecture (KSA) invites applicants for the Trott Visiting Professor position (rank Assistant Professor) from Autumn 2011 through Spring 2012.

We seek candidates with a strong record or strong promise of scholarship in Housing, Community Development and/or Economic Development. The successful candidate will have an applied approach to research and be well-grounded in the theory and practice of planning. Applicants should be able to teach undergraduate- through graduate-level studios, conduct seminars and lectures. The Trott Visiting Professor will interact with faculty and students and make at least one public presentation. Preferred qualifications include a PhD in planning or a related field and experience working in an interdisciplinary environment.

The Ohio State University has many centers that the candidate can interact with, such as the Center for Urban and Regional Analysis, Center for Energy, sustainability and the Environment, the International Poverty Solutions Collaborative, Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, Real Estate Center, and Center for Law, Policy and Social Science.

Located on the main campus of The Ohio State University (OSU), the City & Regional Planning section offers a professionally accredited master of city and regional planning degree, along with a research oriented doctoral degree. The program recently added an undergraduate major and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to all of the academic programs. The C&RP section has ten
faculty members, 130 undergraduate students, 90 master’s students, 20 PhD students, and is active in research, teaching and service, alongside programs in architecture and landscape architecture.

Increasingly our curriculum encourages students to work with diverse disciplines across the College of Engineering and the University to develop individual areas of concentration. Since its inception in 1956, the C&RP program has produced some of the most influential and effective planning professionals in the world. The program’s high quality and large size offer a challenging and stimulating learning environment for its students. They work closely with the faculty and explore a wide range of topics geared toward improving physical, spatial, social, economic, and environmental quality of life for people. The program has an outstanding internship program in which more than 60 students have 20-hour per week paid internships (many with tuition and fee waivers) with public and private planning agencies in the metropolitan area.

Position: Assistant Professor of Public Policy

The Department of Planning, Policy, and Design at the University of California, Irvine invites applications from exceptional scholars for a tenure-track, assistant professor position.  The successful candidate will play a central role in initiating the newly established Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree, as well as develop a strong research profile in relevant areas of public policy.

A Ph.D. in a policy-relevant field, including public policy, political science, anthropology, economics, sociology, urban planning, or related disciplines, is required.  As the MPP is a high-profile collaboration bridging multiple campus units, there will be considerable interface with other departments, particularly in the School of Social Sciences.

We seek candidates with demonstrated ability for intellectual leadership in their chosen area of policy, for example:
• the relationship between empirical research (qualitative or quantitative) and normative dimensions of  public policy,
•  new institutional designs and practices for deliberative policymaking,
• emergent public issues such as the globalization of risk, increasing vulnerability of the marginalized, governance of new technologies, and others.

The Department of Planning, Policy and Design lies within the multi-disciplinary School of Social Ecology and has 17 full-time faculty members representing disciplines like public policy, political science, planning, health policy, economics, environmental management, and law. In addition to the MPP, the department also offers an undergraduate major in Urban Studies, a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree and a Ph.D.  in Planning, Policy, and Design.

The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at the Indianapolis campus seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in nonprofit management.  SPEA is interested in candidates with broad interests and knowledge of the emerging issues in the field of nonprofits– including nonprofit management and governance, relationships between the sectors, social entrepreneurship and social enterprise, and the globalization of the sector.  Disciplinary background and research areas are open, but preference will be given to candidates with rigorous quantitative methodological training and an interest in comparative or international research of the nonprofit sector.  Applicants must present evidence of high quality research and an ambitious research program, an interest in professional service applications, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching.  Applicants should show clear promise for conducting applied research in a multidisciplinary environment, including collaborative research with community organizations and nonprofit agencies. The successful applicant will also demonstrate an ability to communicate the results of such research to a variety of audiences.

A Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline is required.  ABD candidates are welcome to apply, but the degree must be completed prior to the August 2011 start date of the appointment.  The successful applicant will be expected to teach in both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in SPEA’s Public Policy Institute, which conducts research with state and local governments and nonprofit organizations, as well as colleagues at the world-renowned Center on Philanthropy headquartered on the IUPUI campus.
