<p> The Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington, Seattle invites applications for a tenure- track position at the rank of assistant professor in public or non-profit management (100% FTE, Job Class 116, 9-month appointment) in the Evans School with the appointment to begin September 16, 2011. The Evans School of Public Affairs is a NASPAA-accredited, nationally-ranked, internationally-competitive program offering a professional Master’s (MPA) degree, a PhD in Public Policy and Management and an Executive MPA degree.  Faculty scholarship is vigorously encouraged with the help of strong professional development activities and opportunities to participate in research through our own and affiliated research centers. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate promise or evidence of consistently high quality research productivity and excellence in teaching and service.</p>
<p>The Evans School has recognized strengths in non-profit management, budgeting and financial analysis, public management, leadership, decision making, and collaborative governance. Areas of interest in teaching and research are open but preference will be given to those with research interests spanning the boundaries of the public, private and non-profit sectors. This may include non-profit management, private-public partnerships, fiscal governance, contracting and performance management. Public Media Coordinator<br />
 <br />
Timeframe: September 2010 – May 2011 (9 months), 15 hours per week<br />

Objective: To learn the diverse facets of working in public media, including projects in new media, community engagement, administration and other special projects as assigned. <br />
 <br />
nineVoices &amp; Other New Media Responsibilities<br />
Interns will work primarily with KETC’s Special Projects Manager on new media projects, including but not limited to a multi-platform project called nineVoices, an initiative to uncover new and diverse local voices around issues that matter to the St. Louis region.  Online, community members will be invited to share an innovative idea around arts and culture, education, environment, science and other topics, in the form of short videos. <br />
 <br />
Interns will play a significant role in this initiative, including locating interesting individuals in our community, assisting them in the creation of their video, working with the individuals and community groups to define the topics that will be issued through nineVoices.org, managing the online content and defining how participants will be utilized in other programs on-air and in the community.<br />
 <br />
While video editing and production skills are required, a primary component of the work involves teaching and empowering community members to participate in strengthening community life by expressing innovative ideas through video. Interns will provide one-on-one assistance to individuals interested in filming and editing their own video, and may be required to work some non-business hours.<br />
 <br />
Research, report development and production projects for other new media initiatives including, Live from Grand Center (w.t.), Neighborhoods (w.t.) and Town Square (w.t.) will also be assigned.  A desire to learn and develop innovative applications of new media and work closely with the community is central to this position.<br />
 <br />
Administrative Responsibilities<br />
Administrative responsibilities include scheduling meetings, setting up tables, food and beverage for meetings, filing, making deliveries and other special projects as assigned. <br />
 <br />
Qualifications &amp; Skills Required:<br />
Excellent at communication (written and verbal).<br />
Performing research and compiling data.<br />
Knowledge in new media, including social media platforms.<br />
Producing videos, including techniques in interviewing, taping and editing.<br />
Creativity.<br />
Flexible schedule to attend some after-hours networking events.<br />
Analyzing and resolving office administrative and procedural problems.<br />
Accomplished ability with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related software.<br />
Managing own work, setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimum direction.<br />
·         Knowledge in the function of non-profits, television broadcasters and media in general is a plus.<br />

<p>The University of Connecticut seeks applications for a senior faculty member in the social sciences or humanities who will serve as Director of the Urban and Community Studies (UCS) Program.  The UCS Program offers a bachelor’s degree, is interdisciplinary, and sponsors both academic courses and outreach activities at the University’s Greater Hartford, Storrs, Torrington, and Waterbury campuses.  The Director will be expected to coordinate instruction, further develop curriculum and foster ties with community groups.</p>
<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong>: Applicants for this position must have a Ph.D. in a social-science or humanities discipline including (but not limited to) American Studies, Communication Sciences, Economics, Geography, History, Human Development and Family Studies, Political Science, Public Policy or Sociology.  The successful candidate will be expected to have an extensive record of scholarly research and publication in urban and community studies or on urban issues in related disciplines; and strong organizational and administrative skills.</p>
<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong>  Demonstrate experience in off-campus outreach, internships, and service learning; the commitment to build an undergraduate program that integrates theory, research, and practice; contribute through research, teaching, and public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience, and the ability to design and develop interdisciplinary courses in the Urban and Community Studies major.</p>
<p><strong>Appointment Terms</strong>: This is a ten-month, tenure-track position, at the level of Associate or Full Professor.  Salary and rank will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and research record.  The Director is provided with a one course reduction each semester from the standard faculty load of two course per semester. </p>

<p>Preference will be given to candidates with PhDs or other advanced degrees and related work experience. Strong research, writing, and analytic skills are essential.  Training in quantitative methods, statistics, and mathematics is desirable. <p>The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking candidates for a tenure track  appointment as an assistant professor of political science in Public Policy/ Public Administration to begin September 1, 2011.  Applicants must be committed to teaching excellence and an active research agenda.   Preference will be given to candidates who have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment, but consideration will be given to those who are very close to completion. We are seeking candidates who have a broad-based knowledge of policy processes.  Specific policy subfield is open, though we are especially interested in candidates with expertise in intergovernmental relations, bureaucracy, organizational leadership, or homeland security.  Candidates should be able to teach an undergraduate course in research methods which is required of all political science majors.  The teaching load is three courses per semester, which will include classes in both the undergraduate program in political science and the Department’s interdisciplinary master&#8217;s degree program in public policy/public administration. </p>

<strong>About the Brown School</strong><br />
The George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis aims to create positive social change through its path-breaking research and educational excellence.  The Brown School’s international community of faculty, students, and graduates works throughout St. Louis, across the country, and worldwide to apply new knowledge and use the best available evidence to impact policy, practice, and service delivery.  The Brown School offers doctoral and master of social work degrees.  The School is currently expanding its social work programs, launching new strategic initiatives, and planning new programs in public health.  In summer 2008, the School grew substantially, with the recruitment of more than 60 faculty and staff engaged in public health research and education.  The School is now planning and developing a curriculum and program for a new Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, to be launched in the fall of 2009.<strong></strong></p>

<p><strong>Summary of Purpose</strong><br />
The Center for Tobacco Policy Research conducts program and policy evaluation and research in the areas of tobacco control, physical activity, and nutrition. This position will provide data management, analytic and statistical support for a multi-year initiative evaluation.  This position will benefit from training and consultation from affiliated faculty and staff.  The individual will be responsible for: 1) overseeing the collection of data via a web-based system; 2) performing data management activities; and 3) planning and conducting analyses of the datasets and interpreting and presenting findings.  The analyst will work independently with mentoring from the senior staff and statisticians, and in collaboration with project and methodological staff. </p>

<p><strong>Minimum Requirements<br />
</strong>Master’s degree or Master’s degree in progress with minimum 1-2 years training and/or related prior work.  Knowledge of research designs, methods, sampling, biostatistics, and analytical strategies and experience working on different aspects of research studies.  Understanding of appropriate statistical tests for various analysis situations (including, but not limited to correlation, ANOVA, t-test, chi-square). Demonstrated proficiency with database applications and experience working with large and complex databases.</p>
<p>Software proficiency: Competency and experience utilizing relational databases and reporting tools (<em>e.g.,</em> Microsoft Access).  At least one year of experience using SPSS or other statistical packages.</p>
<p>Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are required.  The ability to verbally communicate complex issues and analysis results with clarity to different audiences (e.g., academic, community) is necessary.  The individual will be required to provide technical assistance to community members to ensure data is collected reliably.  Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.  Excellent organizational skills, patience, ability to monitor data quality and maintain a complex set of data analysis tasks, ability to prioritize work flow is required. Ability to balance competing demands and to work effectively.  Attention to detail and accuracy in editing, record-keeping, etc. Ability to collaborate with others, working independently and with team members, including students, staff and faculty. Willing to follow data management conventions set by the center leadership. Ability to learn and independently perform new applications and procedures.  Excellent analytic skills.</p>
<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications<br />
</strong>Masters degree in public health, biostatistics, computer science, psychology or behavioral science, or related field.  Experience performing data analyses for developing manuscripts or grant proposals. Experience with database development and query languages such as SQL.</p>
<p><strong>Special Requirements<br />
</strong>Expertise in SPSS and/or SAS. Familiarity with database applications and relational design concepts. Ability to create compelling visual representations of data using charts, graphs or diagrams as appropriate.</p>
<p><strong>Problem Solving</strong></p>

<li>Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty and staff of varying degrees of technical sophistication.</li>
<li>Modifications to scientific protocols must be made in collaboration with supervisor.</li>

<p><strong>Decision-making and Impact<br />
</strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Decision</span> – Decisions on processes and types of data analyses will be performed. The analyst will need to interpret data and use judgment to determine appropriate data management and analysis processes. Decisions and overall analysis strategies will be guided by project investigators and consultants.  Data safety and monitoring is guided by written procedures. </p>

<p>The George Mason University, Department of Public and International Affairs (PIA) invites applications for a tenure-track position in American politics at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in the Fall of 2011. Ph.D. in Political Science or Public Administration should be in hand at the time of the appointment.<strong></strong></p>
<p>Candidates should have a primary research and teaching interest in bureaucratic politics and executive/legislative relations. Ability to teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses on the presidency, public administration theory and/or research methods will be considered a strong advantage. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research and a commitment to seek outside research funding.</p>
<p>PIA offers graduate and undergraduate programs in political science, public administration and biodefense. The department has over 1,000 undergraduate students, over 400 graduate students, and a full-time faculty of 40.
