American University’s School of Public Affairs invites applications for a full-time, tenure-line faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in its Department of Public Administration and Policy. The position will begin in August 2011 and offers the unique professional and research opportunities of a top-ranked department located in Washington, DC. The person hired will teach courses in our Master of Public Policy, Master of Public Administration, and PhD in Public Administration degree programs. Candidates must demonstrate a strong research and teaching interest in nonprofit management, organizations and institutions, and the intersection between nonprofit agencies and government (including inter-sectoral and/or collaborative management). A research agenda that incorporates a substantive area such as health systems management, social welfare programs, the environment, or education is desired. Strong preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate promise or evidence of consistently high quality research productivity in leading public management/public administration/public policy publications, excellent teaching, and of becoming leaders in their academic fields of specialization. Candidates should have an earned PhD at the time of appointment, preferably in an area of nonprofit study or related field within public administration, public policy, or political science.
