St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office Volunteer/Internship Program

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is currently recruiting volunteers and/or interns for the Victims of Crime Assistance Program.  We are currently conducting interviews for the Spring and Summer of 2010.  A brochure is on the PPS Bulletin Board describing the program and the requirements for students interested in applying to the program.  The brochure also describes some of the many opportunities students will have if accepted into the program.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about the criminal justice system through in-depth training and experiences.  The program allows students to spend time in various court proceedings, interact with bost prosecutors and victims on a regular basis, draft letters, work with victims to recover restitution and victim compensation, provide advocacy for victims, refer victims to community resources, manage their caseload, crisis intervention, and work with individuals seeking ex-parte/full order of protections.  All students will receive an initial 24 hours of training before entering our program, and students will receive continued training throughout the internship.  Please see the reverse side of this documents to see the victim rights students will enforce.

Furthermore,  if any of your instructors and/or student groups is looking for guest speakers to recruit and educate students about victims, victims’ rights, and other criminal justice issues, I would be willing to speak at any events or during class sessions.

I can personally testify to the importance of students internships.  I believe our program will allow students to gain invaluable experience and build profesional alliances within the crimanl justice system, while providing important and rewarding services to victims of crime.  If any of you are interested in our program, please call me at 636-949-7900, extension 5811.  Thank you.
