Ever wondered what happened after the truck empties your recycling bin and carts the recyclables off? This informative luncheon presentation will discuss the logistics of single stream recycling – from setting up a program to where all those cans and bottles end up.
Chris Seemayer, city administrator for the City of Brentwood, will explain the operation of Brentwood’s single-stream residential recycling program. Since the City took over the program 2004, there has been a steady increase in tonsof solid waste materials diverted from the landfill. Mr. Seemayer will explain the primary components of Brentwood’s residential recycling program, including how the city has developed its program in part with funds awarded through the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District.
Gary Gilliam of Resource Management will explain that single stream recycling is not a new concept; it has been a main stay of recycling on the East and West coast for years. The process of single stream recycling was brought to St Louis by Resource Management operating locally in Earth City, MO. Single Stream recycling is a process where the resident/business can mix all recyclable materials in one bin/cart/container; making the task of recycling so easy in the home or business.
